What My Clients Say
What a great experience! Connor was incredibly patient and attentive. He gave consistent reminders throughout the lesson and made each person feel confident, even though it was a new skill for us. Connor was able to explain the process and help us pick out our first rod. This was a 5 out of 5 experiance!

Connor was an awesome guide! He knows the rivers and waters of Eastern NC like the back of his hand, and in turn will put you on some huge fish! If you wanna go out with a guide that will not only hone your skills, but also treat you to a good time, then Connor is your man!

Connor showed me one of the best times I’ve had fishing! He really strives to provide a great overall experience. The amount of big fish we were able to see and target was incredible. I was able to land my personal best, and saw plenty of 2-3.5 bass cruising the banks. Will 100% be booking Connor again and you should too!

I knew nothing about fly fishing but wanted to learn. Connor introduced me to fly fishing and tought me how to cast, how to find the fish, all about equipment and where to buy it, among numerous other things. On my first session I was catching fish! He is an outstanding teacher with a pure love for the sport.
I connected with Connor in June at an event we were volunteering. He told me about the rivers in Central North Carolina and all the good fishing. He wasn’t wrong. His knowledge of “where the fish are” is tremendous. He was a great coach! He had great tips and tireless patience in teaching me the essentials to be sucessful.

Connor is an excellent guide. His experience and attention to detail ensure that you are in good hands. No matter the conditions he will know a spot to put you on fish! He’s always willing to go the extra mile for that one bite.

It’s not often tone has a perfect day fishing on the New River in Virginia, but Deep River Fly Fishing orchestrated a day with warm weather, gentle winds, restaurant quality lunch, valuable casting and hook set advice and small mouth bass on the hook. I can’t wait to do it again!

LEARNING OCCURED - FISH WERE CAUGHT. Great day. Connor and I had a great day of fishing out on the water. A trip with him really requires no prior experience and a willingness to learn. Upon arrival, he showed me the basics of assembling and preparing your flyrod from the bag, something I had no experience in coming from a traditional rod and reel background. After showing me his own prep and giving clear instructions, I quickly had my rod ready to go.
He demonstrated proper casting and talked me through the process, then had me try it on my own. He patiently gave clear instructions, one concept at a time, while considerately observing my practice. I even got a solid bite on the first cast, a testament to his knowledge of the locations he has chosen. He let me practice correcting his critiques until I was ready to move around and really go search for fish. We moved up the creek and immediately started catching fish and refining my technique.
The more he critiqued me the better I got. I quickly transitioned bites into fish caught and we were off for a productive day. Connor knew plenty about every fish species we encountered, even making predictions on how each species would react on hookup, and subsequently feeding me clear instructions on how to adjust my retrieval.
Fishing with Connor (Deep River Fly Fishing) is a worthwhile experience to say the least. We ended the day with 12-15+ fish caught each, all of which were fun to bring in regardless of size. I felt great heading home with such good reaults and the ability to flyfish on my own within such a short amount of time.
